About TMP

Established in 1993, The Males Place, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing manhood development for African American boys. Over the years, our outreach program has mentored over 3,000 youth, making us one of the largest mentoring organizations in North Carolina. From an intervention-based approach rooted in self-awareness, The Males Place has contributed to reducing youth delinquency and gang involvement in Charlotte and surrounding counties. 

We offer a holistic curriculum that incorporates educational, spiritual, agricultural, social, civic, recreational, and cultural enrichment programs to empower and develop our youth.

The Mission

The mission of The Males Place, Inc. is to provide comprehensive, prevention-based behavioral health education, mentoring, and life skills training essential for the manhood development of African American boys ages 12–18.

The organization creates a safe environment for young men to grow experientially in community settings, both in the United States and abroad.

At The Males Place, we focus on empowering young men by drawing on time-honored traditions, history, and culture to help them discover who they are and develop into confident leaders,” states our Founder & Executive Director, Omachi Baba Reggie Singleton.

The Program Demographics

The Males Place operates a three-tiered program focused on agriculture, mentoring, and social justice, serving a diverse population in Mecklenburg County and surrounding areas.’

  • Current Demographics: 98% African American and 2% multiracial.
  • Over the past 30 plus years, The Males Place has mentored African American boys, as well as boys from other ethnic backgrounds, including White, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American communities.
  • 95% of mentees are considered economically disadvantaged.
  • Many program graduates have gone on to pursue four-year college degrees, community or technical college training, military service, workforce careers, and entrepreneurial ventures.

The Volunteer Mentors

At The Males Place, we deeply value and warmly welcome volunteer mentors to guide our young men. Our mentees engage in enriching activities such as:

  • Participating in special interest community service programs.
  • Attending sports, performing arts, and visual arts events.
  • Developing and applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills in areas of personal interest throughout their time in the program.
  • Mentors play a crucial role by sharing their experiences and working alongside our youth in various manhood training activities, including spending time in the garden. This hands-on approach fosters personal growth and development.
