Frequently Asked Questions
We provide opportunities to develop essential life skills through engaging in bi-weekly holistic training. This includes both physical and mental exercises, as well as community service events and educational workshops. These activities are designed to support the cultivation of well-rounded individuals who are equipped to face the challenges of the world.
We serve young men aged 12-18 years.
We offer a variety of programs, manhood training, agricultural education, career exploration, social justice, social and behavioral development, cultural exposure, academic preparation, life skill training and conclude with rite of passage.
Upon completion of the application and onboarding process, which can take up to four weeks, newly registered TMP members will be eligible to purchase their TMP t-shirt ($25), hoodie ($40) and polo shirt ($25).
To remain a member of TMP, you must show dedication by attending the scheduled training and events, and responding positively to the mentorship that is provided.
We do not provide transportation for our weekly training. However, we may offer transportation to select cultural, community service and recreational events. We welcome parents and guardians to attend and support these events.
We provide supporting materials for parents/warriors as a part of our onboarding process.
No. Every warrior is assigned a mentor or “Mshauri” who holds regular small group meetings to strengthen the relationship outside of the weekly training sessions. These meetings are customized to meet the unique needs of each warrior.
We currently serve ~ 25 young men that actively participate with us.
Once you sign up, we will require a periodic refresh of your application to ensure we have the latest information. Our TMP program structure is a long-term commitment, rather than a typical seasonal community service. We expect you to remain active throughout the year.
Yes. The intent is for the Mshauri to develop a deep relationship with the aligned warrior throughout the journey of manhood training. There may be some exceptions at the discretion of the TMP Leadership team.
Mshauri interacts with each prospective warrior during the trial period to allow exposure. The Mshauri assign warriors to kingdoms based on capacity, and alignment based on the development needs of the warrior and skill set.
We expect our warriors to attend regularly during the summer season, which is our busiest time. We understand the importance of holidays and breaks, and we provide opportunities to observe them. However, we require attendance and appropriate timely communication to maintain our productivity and ensure smooth operations. Agriculture
The garden detail is a process of cultivating crops for local distribution that involves a year-long effort of growing, maintaining, and harvesting. Additionally, we offer an excellent opportunity for warriors to acquire professional agriculture training and certification.
Rosa Parks Farmers Market is a transformational, educational, outdoor seasonal farmers market that’s community led. It is located at the West Complex, 1600 W. Trade St., Charlotte, NC, 28216. It is open on Tuesdays, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, mid-June 15 to late September.
Your child will receive adequate training by participating in the training sessions and primary phases of our Garden Management Program that occurs weekly beginning early Spring until Late Fall/early Winter.
Yes. We encourage our TMP family to participate in harvesting and consuming the fruits and vegetables in the garden.
Events and Trips
You can visit https://www.themalesplace.org. We also provide updates and communications via GroupMe and www.themalesplace.org.
All invitations are provided within our GroupMe chat and in-person sign-ups during our weekly manhood training and family nights.
We welcome families to support events. We will notify you of any participation requirements or limitations based on the event.
Parent and Family Night is mandatory and occurs on the 4th Wednesday of the month. We expect warriors to wear a shirt, tie, dress pants and shoes and for parents to wear business attire.

There are several ways to volunteer. To inquire and sign up for volunteering, simply reach out to Baba Reggie Singleton at https://themalesplace.org/contact-us or the Washauri. They will be able to provide you with the opportunities and required commitment.
Yes. TMP performs background checks on volunteers, Mshauri and interns that interact directly with the warriors.
